The Abyssinian is a form of tabby with a agouti pattern and characteristic facial markings such as the distinctive "M" on the forehead. Each hair shaft has a combination of different colors called ticking. Darker bands alternate with lighter colored ones. The ground color is closest to the skin. The ears are large and pointed as though listening. The eyes are pronounced by a dark ring as if the cat is wearing black eyeliner.
